Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis Tone 4

Composed in 1975, these simple and effective settings for AATTBB or SATTBB unaccompanied choir appear on the music lists at St John's College, Cambridge and St George's Chapel, Windsor, though in a slightly different version (of unknown origin).

The version presented here has been typeset from the original manuscripts held in the Gonville & Caius College Music Library and the Cambridge University Library, with minor editorial alterations.

Ripon Cathedral Lay Clerks have used the settings a number of times since 2016. Brecon Cathedral Choir have adapted the settings for SATB by giving the top line to the trebles. And in late 2017 the setting successfully migrated North to Carlisle Cathedral under Mark Duthie, appearing regularly for the Boys & Lay Clerks. In 2022 the setting was well received at Bradford Cathedral, while some queries about note lengths and reciting notes led us to produce a revised edition on 13th February 2022, available from the links below.
