The Joyous Year
The Joyous Year, subtitled “an ode for Summer”, is a setting for SATB chorus & orchestra (3*.2.2.2 ‑ 4.2.2.0 ‑ strings, timp, perc 4 players: triangle, tambourine, tubular bells, cymbals, side drum, bass drum) of the “Ode composed on a May morning” by William Wordsworth, composed for the centenary of Clifton College in 1962. The work was revised for performance in 1984.

At the Gonville & Caius College May Week Concert 17 June 1984, the College Chorus and Orchestra (Leader: Daniel Warburton) combined to perform Peter Tranchell’s Cantata “The Joyous Year”, a setting of Wordworth’s “Ode composed on May morning” (Conductor: Timothy Allen).
