A setting of the Nunc Dimittis for tenor & bass solos, AATBrBB choir and organ, August1979, written for the choir of Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge.
The Caian's records relating to Choir and Music in the Chapel state that this Nunc Dimittis featured in Chapel in the 1979-80 academic year. The un-paired Magnificat settings listed for the same year are Arnold Tone 5, Tranchell Tones 3, 4 and 7, so presumably it was paired with one of these.
The Cambridge University Archive entry for the sketches for the work state 'Based on an anglican chant: one sheet titled: 'Chant 175. Tranchell Tone 16'.' We do not currently know of a Chant 175 or Tone 16.
The setting is notable for the unusually high Tenor solo, extending to E5, though with two ossie with highest notes C♯5 and G♯4 respectively.
