That's why I'm buying the ring

That's why I'm buying the ring is the first entry in Tranchell's own Thematic Catalogue of his music. It was written in 1944, when Tranchell was stationed in Malta. The lyrics are credited to Geoffrey Payne, who is also credited with the melodies in a few other songs.

First line: My philosophy may not agree.
First line of refrain: I've got a theory.

The typeset score presented below was typeset from MS.Tranchell.2.437 and the verse melody was deduced from the piano part. We also need to check MS.Tranchell.2.434 and MS.Tranchell.3.283, the latter said to include the verse melody separately written out.
