Entries are in for the 2024 Composition Prize

All entries are in for the 2024 Peter Tranchell Foundation Composition Prize, and it's the strongest field yet from the three years the competition has been running. Evaluating and short-listing the submissions (anonymously) is now in progress, and final decisions will be made around 25th September. Watch this space (and the Facebook group) for an announcement. There is wonderful musical and poetic creativity on display amongst the entries, and the titles of Tranchell's missing songs clearly inspired our composers in many different ways. We think Peter would have been thrilled to know that these titles, and the snatches of melody that survived in his thematic catalogue, have allowed such exciting new works to be conceived.

Outcomes now rest with our judging panel of David Hill (Chair), Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Mary Bevan, William Vann and Lucy Colquhoun, and last year's winner Dónal McCann.

We'll announce results on or shortly after 25th September, and the winning work will receive its première performance in the concert on Saturday 9 November 2024 at St. Paul's Knightsbridge with Soprano Mary Bevan, Tenor James Gilchrist, and pianists Lucy Colquhoun and William Vann.
